Trauma informed, relational therapy

Hi, I’m Maejoy Obach, a Clinical Psychologist in Coffs Harbour. I support people from all walks of life to find their way back toward connection.

“Kapwa is a recognition of a shared identity, an inner self, shared with others.”

— Professor Virgilio Enriquez, founder of Sikolohiyang Pilipino

Kapwa comes from Filipino psychology, which recognises the self as deeply connected to others. It's a specific word, but a universal idea - that we heal in connection.

This shapes how I work. Therapy here is something that we do together, with the relationship between us as part of how change happens.

About me

Hi, I’m Maejoy. 👋

I’m the person you’ll be working with at Kapwa Psychology. Born and raised on Dharawal Country (Sydney) with Filipino heritage, I feel very lucky to have called the Coffs Coast home for the last 7 years.

I started this practice from a deep belief in people’s innate capacity to heal. A life with more ease, presence, and connection is possible for all, regardless of where you are.

I'm often described as warm, genuine, and easy to talk to. I'd say my approach is the same, relational and built around what actually matters to you.

Most people who reach out have been carrying something for a while.

Do you recognise a few of these?

Feeling disconnected from yourself, even if life looks “fine” from the outside

Carrying the weight of something that happened once or had built up over time

High achieving and used to holding it together, but increasingly tired or running on empty

A complicated relationship with food or your body

Questioning your worth, or who you are underneath the roles you play

A nervous system that rarely feels settled

Always on edge or quick to brace, even in situations that are actually safe

Having done therapy already, and still feeling like something hasn't quite shifted

Curious about approaches beyond talk alone, like EMDR or working with the body

If any of this sounds familiar, you're in the right place.

I work with adults and young people (16+), in person in Coffs Harbour and via telehealth across Australia.

EMDR is often part of this work, including as an Intensive for people wanting more concentrated support over a shorter period.
